In several international research projects, the founders explored some background technologies underlying SKIDER. With a focus on Civil Protection and Rescue, the challenging requirements of these applications have been incorporated in the development of SKIDER from the beginning.

One of the main motivations for the further development of basic technologies into marketable products was the opportunity to contribute to an emerging technology area with innovative solutions. Not least because of this, SKIDER's modular design allows it be used as a development platform in other research projects. Partial aspects can thus be implemented in the context of the respective projects and at the same time can be built on an existing sustainable platform. Thus, it is also possible to further develop research results after the end of the funded period with relatively little effort for industrial and commercial applications.
